KANSAS CITY, MO — The University of Missouri softball team got a set of clutch hits in the sixth inning and a complete-game shutout from pitcher Cierra Harrison to register a 3-0 win over the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Kansas City Royals Urban Academy.

Alex Honnold tripled with one out, then scored on a line-shot single by Julia Crenshaw to put the Tigers on the board. Then Maddie Gallagher launched her first home run of the season, a two-run shot over the right field wall, to give Mizzou a 3-0 lead.

Harrison (6-0) made that edge stand up, as she tossed seven strong innings, without giving up any runs, and allowing just two hits. The sophomore righthander from Lee’s Summit, also struck out a career-high 10 batters to lead Mizzou to its fifth straight victory.

It was Harrison’s second complete-game shutout of the season. The first came on February 16, when she pitched her first career no-hitter against Texas A&M-Commerce.

The Tigers are 18-2 on the year as they head into SEC play, beginning this weekend with a home series against No. 25-ranked Auburn.
