COLUMBIA, MO — After grabbing an early lead that excited a sold out Mizzou Arena crowd, the No. 15-ranked University of Missouri men’s basketball team looked flat for the rest of the game and eventually suffered a 91-83 loss to No. 19 Kentucky in its regular season home finale.

The Tigers got 22 points from junior forward Mark Mitchell and 17 points off the bench from grad student Marques Warrick. But it wasn’t enough against a Kentucky team that had four players score in double figures, led by Otega Oweh, who had 22 points, and Koby Brea, who had 17, including three three-pointers.

After missing 10 of its first 12 shots, Kentucky turned the tide by going on an 11-0 run that put the Wildcats up 15-11 midway through the first half. Missouri never led again.

After an 11-3 run to end the first half gave the ‘Cats a 38-29 lead, the visitors from Lexington led by as many as 15 points in the second half. Mizzou went on a 10-0 run to get back to within five points. But that was as close as the Tigers would get.

Mizzou now heads into the postseason with a 21-10 overall record and a 10-8 mark in SEC play. The Tigers will be the No. 7 seed in the SEC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday in Nashville.

Missouri will play either 10th-seeded Mississippi State or 15th-seeded LSU in the SEC Tournament’s second round. The MSU/LSU game will be on Wednesday. Mizzou will play the winner on Thursday.
