DALLAS, TX — The No. 6-ranked Saint Louis University men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, Thursday night, when it dropped a 1-0 decision to SMU at the Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium on SMU’s campus.

SMU’s Jaylinn Mitchell scored the game’s only goal, on a rebound shot in the 48th minute, to provide the Mustangs with the win. SMU out shot Saint Louis 13-3, though only three of the Mustangs’ shots were on goal to just two for the Billikens.

Once it gained the lead, SMU’s defense took over the rest of the game and did an excellent job of not letting Saint Louis get any scoring chances.

“It’s a collective effort. It’s more than just four or five guys, we’re all committed to defending and limiting their chances,” SMU coach Cesar Ruvalcaba said. “If we can keep their chances to zero, it’s likely that we can come out with the win or a tie.”

SLU, which is now 1-1 on the season, will be back in action on Monday, September 2, when it hosts IU-Indianapolis for a game at Hermann Stadium. Opening kick that night is at 7 p.m.

SLU’s next home game will be on Monday, September 2, at Hermann Stadium against IU-Indianapolis.
