ST. LOUIS, MO — The Saint Louis University women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to nine games and moved into second place in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings on Sunday, thanks to a 1-0 Senior Day victory over VCU at Hermann Stadium.
Freshman Hope Kim scored the only goal of the game, in the 21st minute, on a play set up by teammate Julia Simon. It was Kim’s second goal of the season and Simon’s third assist this year.
Billiken goalkeeper Emily Puricelli made her 100th consecutive start in goal and collected two saves on her way to earning her school-record 75th win and 46th career shutout.
Saint Louis is now 8-1-5 on the season and 4-0-2 in the Atlantic 10. The Billikens are one point behind Dayton for first place in the standings. The Flyers are 5-1 in conference play.
SLU and Loyola Chicago are the only teams that don’t have a conference loss.

Saint Louis outshot VCU 29-5, with nine of those Billiken shots being on goal to just two for the Rams. VCU is now 2-7-4 on the season and 1-1-4 in the conference.
Sunday’s victory allowed SLU to continue a number of incredible program winning streaks. SLU is 74-9-11 in its last 94 games at Hermann Stadium, an .846 winning percentage and Sunday’s shutout was the Billikens’ 59th during the 94-game stretch. Against A-10 opponents during that period, Saint Louis is 51-1-4 (39-0-4 regular season, 12-1-0 A-10 tournament).
SLU also extended its A-10 regular-season unbeaten streak to 26 games — including conference tournament games, Saint Louis has an unbeaten streak of 35 games.
The Billikens will look to keep that run going with a pair of road games this week. First, SLU will be in Virginia on Thursday to play Richmond, before moving on to Philadelphia to play La Salle on Sunday.
SLU’s next home game will be on October 24, when the Billikens will host George Mason at Hermann Stadium.
The regular season finale could be a showdown for the A-10 regular season title. Saint Louis will be on the road to play Dayton.
