ST. LOUIS, MO -– The Saint Louis University athletics department released its women’s volleyball 2023 schedule on Friday. The Billikens will play a 30-match slate this fall, which includes four non-conference tournament appearances, 18 Atlantic 10 Conference contests, and nine home matches at Chaifetz Pavilion.
Saint Louis will officially begin season training camp on Monday, July 31, and will play a lone exhibition match on Saturday, August 19, in Carbondale, Ill., against Southern Illinois.
“We are fired up for our fall 2023 schedule,” Billiken head volleyball coach Andrea Beaty said. “We have the perfect mixture of challenging opponents that will help prepare us for a tough A10 conference slate. Our team is committed to growth. Some days that growth will be incremental, while other days that growth will be in big strides. Either way the goal is always the same: Grow together, and always compete.”
Following the exhibition match at SIU, SLU will open its season at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala., taking on Mercer, Mississippi Valley State, and host Alabama on August 25-26.
The team continues its early-season schedule participating in the Chippewa Invitational against Albany, Bradley, and host Central Michigan on September 1-2, before taking on Miami (Ohio), New Mexico State, and host Illinois State in Normal, Ill., on September 8-9.
The Billikens will wrap up their nonconference slate against Austin Peay, Southeast Missouri, and Kansas City at a tournament in Kansas City on September 15-16.
SLU’s home opener will take place on Friday, September 22, when the Billikens host VCU to begin conference play. The teams square off again the following day as the A-10 continues the home-and-home format it began in 2022.
The one exception is a home-and-away series with Loyola Chicago, beginning with a single contest at Chaifetz Pavilion on October 3, followed by an away match in Chicago, three weeks later on October 24.
The Billikens will host not only VCU, but also Fordham, Rhode Island, Loyola Chicago and George Washington. In addition to the single match at Loyola Chicago, SLU will travel to George Mason, Duquesne, Dayton and Davidson in league play.
Davidson will serve as the host of the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament, November 17-19, at the Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C.
