The summer is just beginning and it’s already been a fun time for the University of Missouri football program.
The Tigers are a little more than a month from beginning training camp for the 2024 season, but throughout May and June, the team has been hosting and wooing high school recruits from all over the country, hoping those players will decide to join Missouri’s program once they become college eligible.
And so far this summer, Mizzou has done well at landing the recruits they want.
Recently, four-star running back Jamarion Morrow from Memphis announced his plans to play at Missouri. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound do-it-all back chose the Tigers over Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Florida State, among others.
Morrow is the 139th best player in the 2025 national class and the third-best player in the state of Tennessee, according to Rivals.com.
When asked why he chose Mizzou, Morrow said it was his relationship with Tigers running back coach Curtis Luper that made him want to be a Tiger.
“I love the coaching and how their team is all together,” Morrow said of Missouri back in April. “They have great chemistry and a lot of love inside their coaching room. I like everything that Coach (Curtis) Luper does. He calls me all the time. I have a great relationship with him and I feel like we’ve just been building it over the last few months and I really like the relationship with him, Coach (Eli) Drinkwitz, and everybody. I feel like we’ve got a great connection.”
Morrow was at Missouri for one of their spring practices and got a good feel for how Coach Luper coaches and teaches his running backs.
“He wants a tough running back,” Morrow stated. “I know there is a lot of new running backs in the room, but he wants them to assert their dominance in their game.”
During his junior season, Morrow displayed his offensive versatility, tallying over 1,200 all-purpose yards and 12 touchdowns. He also recorded 24 tackles and four interceptions on defense as well.
“He always says that I’m a bit different than what they got now and that’s what he likes the most,” Morrow said of Luper. “He likes how I am off the field and I just love ball, that’s what he likes about me.”
Another prime recruit that recently chose Mizzou was four-star outside linebacker Dante McClellan.
A 6-foot-2, 215-pounder from Canton, Ohio, McClellan didn’t mince words about his reasons for picking Missouri.
“Missouri is the pick,” McClellan said. “It felt like home when I stepped on campus and I have good relationships with the staff and coaches there.”
McClellan is the second front-seven player to commit this cycle. He joins Illinois four-star defensive lineman Jason Dowell who committed last week. The defender is expected to be back in Columbia for his official visit June 21 weekend.
The Tigers won out for the Ohio native over Tennessee, Louisville and Michigan State. During his junior season, McClellan tallied 75 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, four sacks, and an interception.
He’s excited to be a Tiger.
“I feel the program is going in a positive direction and the ’25 class is going to be special,” McClellan said.
And just this week, Mizzou landed its 11th commitment for the class of 2025 with Ironton, Ohio wide receiver Shaun Terry committing to the school on Monday.
Terry, a three-star prospect, used to be committed to Notre Dame but decommitted on June 1. He had an official visit with the Tigers the first week of June and chose them over Kentucky and Michigan, the latter of which he visited this past weekend.
Last season, Ohio’s 26th-rated overall player amassed 27 receptions for 525 yards and nine touchdowns. He also added 28 carries for 391 yards and five touchdowns.
He is the first wide receiver to commit to the Tigers as a part of this class.
Mizzou is expecting more commitments in the coming weeks, as it is hosting one of its biggest recruiting visit weekends this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Players expected to attend include:
Donovan Olugbode — 4-star WR from Bradenton, FL
Jayvan Boggs — 4-star WR from Cocoa, FL
Corey Simms — 4-star WR from CBC High School in St. Louis
Charles Bass — 4-star S from East St. Louis
