The University of Missouri women’s softball team picked up a huge road win Saturday afternoon, when it defeated the No. 13-ranked Kentucky Wildcats, 13-0, in a five-inning, run rule game at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Ky.
Missouri was led by senior designated player Kim Wert, who was three-for-three at the plate, with two home runs — including a grand slam — and seven RBIs.
Teammate and fellow senior Brooke Wilmes was four-for-four on the day, with an RBI and three runs scored. Freshman Kara Daly had two hits, and senior Emma Raabe launched her second homer of the season, as well.
Pitcher Jordan Weber (9-5) tossed all five innings to get the win. She allowed just five hits and struck out seven, with no walks or hit batters.
The two homers by Wert tied her with Wilmes for the team lead in homers, with 11, and raised her team-leading RBI total to 37.
The Tigers are now 26-17 on the season, and 6-9 in Southeastern Conference play. Mizzou will look to win the series when it faces Kentucky again on Sunday.
That contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., Sunday evening, and will be televised live on the SEC Network.
