COLUMBIA, MO — The University of Missouri women’s basketball team expanded its win streak to open the 2022-23 season to three straight games, Sunday afternoon, when it knocked off Southeast Missouri State, 62-50, at Mizzou Arena.

Missouri was led offensively by a group of four players, who all scored in double-figures.

Senior forward Hayley Frank led the way with 13 points, while teammates Lauren Hansen, Ashton Judd, and Sara-Rose Smith added 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively. Grad student senior Haley Troup anchored Mizzou’s defense by pulling down a career-high nine rebounds.

The game was tight throughout, with neither team leading by more than six points, until Mizzou went up by seven late in the first half. SEMO answered right back though, with a three-pointer in the final seconds to cut Mizzou’s lead to 29-25 at halftime.

The Redhawks were then able to grab the lead early in the third quarter, thanks to three straight baskets that made it 31-29 SEMO. The Tigers answered by outscoring SEMO, 14-6, in the final four minutes to take a 46-42 lead into the fourth quarter.

It was in the final stanza when Mizzou really took control. The Tigers outscored the Redhawks 16-8, and allowed the visitors to make just three-of-13 shots.

Mizzou on the other hand, made six-of-10 of its fourth quarter shots and was four-for-four from the free-throw line, which helped put the game away.

The key stretch in the game came just as the fourth quarter began, as Mizzou opened the final stanza by going on a 10-0 run to push its lead to 14 points. SEMO tried to rally, but never got closer than eight points the rest of the way, as it suffered its second loss of the season.

Mizzou will look to push its win streak to four, when it gets right back on the court on Monday, November 14, with a home game against Western Kentucky. That matchup at Mizzou Arena is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m., and will be televised live on SEC Network-Plus.
