COLUMBIA, MO — The University of Missouri women’s softball team put an end to a three-game losing streak and kept its run of midweek wins alive, by pulling out a 4-1 victory, Wednesday afternoon against Northern Iowa.

The Tigers were coming off getting swept last weekend at Auburn, but they bounced back nicely, with a wire-to-wire win over the Lady Panthers.

With the win, Mizzou improved to 6-0 in midweeks (5-0 at home) this season.

Jordan Weber led the Tigers in the circle by registering four strikeouts, while only allowing just two hits over four innings for the win. Weber, a senior from Lee’s Summit, Mo., improved to 6-5 in 2023 (38-21 in her career).

The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead after a two-run homer from Alex Honnold in the bottom of the first. The homer was Honnold’s eighth of the season, and came two pitches after teammate Jenna Laird led off the game with a single to right field, which raised her team-leading batting average to .431.

Mizzou doubled its lead in the second inning, after Chantice Phillips led off with a double, then later scored on a Northern Iowa fielding error, and teammate Payton Jackson, who reached base on the error, eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Julia Crenshaw.

Northern Iowa got its run in the top of the sixth, on an RBI single from Mya Dodge.

But that was all the Lady Panthers would get, as Megan Schumacher and Taylor Pannell came in relieve Weber, and held UNI scoreless to just the one run.

Pannell pitched a scoreless seventh and struck out two of the batters she faced to get her fourth save of the season.

Mizzou will be back in SEC action this weekend, when it will host a three-game series against No. 13-ranked Alabama. The Tigers and Tide will play single-day games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with Saturday’s matchup scheduled to be televised live on SEC Network.
