COLUMBIA, MO — Freshman shortstop Madison Uptegrove launched a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning and it proved to be all the offense the University of Missouri women’s softball team would need, as the Tigers took down No. 24 Georgia, 1-0, in its regular season finale, Saturday afternoon at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.
The victory also gave Missouri its first Southeastern Conference series win of the season, with the Tigers taking two of three from the Bulldogs this weekend. It was also Mizzou’s ninth win over a ranked opponent this season.
The home run came on a 3-2 pitch, as Uptegrove led off the bottom of the second inning. The drive went over the right-centerfield wall and was the freshman’s fifth home run of the season.

Junior righthander Cierra Harrison and fellow junior lefty Taylor Pannell made that one run stand up, as they held Georgia scoreless the entire game. Harrison (10-8) went six innings and allowed just two hits and a hit batter, with no walks, and one strikeout.
Pannell earned her third save of the season by pitching a scoreless seventh inning. She retired the Bulldogs three-up, three-down and struck out two, including a third-strike change-up that froze Georgia’s Emily Digby for the final out of the game.

Mizzou concludes the regular season with a 25-30 record and will head into next week’s SEC Tournament as the No. 14 seed. The Tigers will play No. 11 seed Mississippi in the first round on Tuesday, May 6.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m., and the game will be televised live on the SEC Network.
