GREENVILLE, IL — The Washington University women’s soccer team played its first game as the No. 1 Division III team in the country Wednesday night. And the Bears looked every bit like the nation’s top team, as they dominated host Greenville in a 3-0 win.

WashU is now 14-0-1 on the season and remains the only team at any level of NCAA soccer this season — men’s or women’s — that has yet to allow a goal.

With the shutout, senior goalkeeper Sidney Conner becomes the program’s all-time leader for shutouts with 32 in her career thus far.

The Bears got on the board in the 17th minute as junior Nicole Schmidt scored her first-career goal following a corner kick.

Just two minutes later at the 18:05 mark, graduate student Madeline Allburn scored her third goal of the season to put WashU up 2-0.

Junior Sara Giannotti added another goal for the Bears in the 35th minute to give them a 3-0 edge at the half.

WashU dominated on both ends, recorded 20 shots with eight on goal while holding Greenville to just three total shots.

Conner made her first save of the game in the 33rd minute on a Vanessa Ramirez attempt. She stopped another shot in the 68th minute by Mia Long and with just 22 seconds remaining, kept the Panthers off the board with a save on an Emma Cadwell shot.

First-year Anna Rosato registered a team-high five shots for the Bears while both Allburn and first-year Julia Moore had three apiece.

The Bears host Rochester on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Francis Olympic Field. Prior to the game, WashU will honor its seven seniors.
