NORMANDY, MO — The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team extended its recent hot winning string to eight victories in its last nine games on Tuesday, when it defeated Harris-Stowe State University, 11-1, in a game at the UMSL Baseball Field.
Three different UMSL players had two hits and four had at least two RBIs, as the Tritons pounced on the Hornets for a run-rule win in a game that last just seven innings. UMSL scored runs in five of those seven innings, powered by an offensive attack to produced nine hits, two walks, six hit batsmen, and seven stolen bases.
Senior first baseman Mitchell Green led the way. He had two hits, four RBIs, and scored a run. One of those hits — a solo shot in the sixth inning — was his fourth home run of the season.
Junior left fielder Jordan Aguallo also homered. His blast was his first of the season and accounted for the two runs that ended the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Bryce Kulinski and Logan McIntyre each joined Aguallo with two RBIs in the game, while leadoff man Dane Stevenson had two hits, stole three bases, and scored three runs.
On the mound, senior Jack Rhodes (1-0) returned from injury and made his first start of the season. The righthander from St. Charles West High went six strong innings and allowed just one run on four hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.
Sophomore Ryan Berry pitched the final inning to close the game out. UMSL is now 24-14 on the season.
Tuesday’s game was the first in a five-game homestand for the Tritons. The club will return to Great Lakes Valley Conference action this weekend, when it hosts a four-game series against McKendree.
The Tritons and Bearcats will play one game on Friday, two games on Saturday, and a final game on Sunday.
