ST. LOUIS — The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s volleyball team took another step towards winning its second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Central Division championship, Tuesday night, when it defeated Quincy University in a three-set sweep at the Mark Twain Building on the UMSL campus.

UMSL, which leads the GLVC Central with an 11-2 conference record (18-6 overall) is now three games ahead of second place Lindenwood University with just five games to play.

The Tritons will play Lindenwood, at Lindenwood, on November 9, and could clinch the division title on that night if they were to win that match and win the two matches they have before then against Indianapolis and No. 20 Lewis as well.

With a three-game lead and just five matches to play, if UMSL didn’t clinch the title that night at Lindenwood, it could still do so with wins in either of its final two home matches against Maryville on November 12, or against Truman State on November 13.

On Tuesday, UMSL played one of its most exciting matches of the season, as it rallied from deficits in all three sets to knock off Quincy.

The visiting Hawks are in third place in the GLVC Central and needed several huge wins to catch the Tritons, including what would’ve been their biggest win of the season if they could win on Tuesday.

But the championship hungry Tritons refused to let it happen, as they used a 10-2 run in the first set, a 9-2 run in the second set, and a 10-3 run in the third set to push ahead of the Hawks each time.

Senior outside hitter Charlotte Richards had a match-high 14 kills to lead the way, with teammates Paige Yoder, Olivia Klank, and Maya Elliott adding nine, eight, and seven kills, respectively.

Kaileen Herman had 39 assists and two service aces to help keep the offense flowing, while Megan Woll had 16 digs to power the Triton defense.

Quincy’s Emily Rehagen, a St. Louis-area native, who attended Timberland High School in Wentzville, had 11 kills and 13 digs to lead the Hawks.

UMSL will go for its fourth straight win, Friday night when it hosts UIndy at 7 p.m. The showdown against Lewis, which is 19-6 on the season and 13-1 in the GLVC East, is on Saturday, with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m.
