NORMANDY, MO — The No. 4-ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s volleyball team remained unbeaten with a straight sets win over crosstown rival Maryville University, Saturday afternoon at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons improved to 22-0 overall and 7-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, while the Saints fell to 14-8 and 5-3 in the GLVC.

Grad student senior Lexie Rang had a match-high 20 kills to lead the UMSL attack. Fellow senior Delaney Humm had 14 kills and teammates Mya Elliott and Hailey Flowers added eight kills apiece. Sophomore setter Caitlin Bishop had 44 assists and senior libero Kylie Adams added 17 digs and three service aces, as UMSL dominated the match from start to finish.

UMSL used a 6-2 run early in the match turning an early deficit into a three-point lead after an error by Hanna Dressing. The lead grew to 22-14 late in the set after a kill by Humm. Maryville made a late push closing within 24-19 after a kill from Dressing but wouldn’t get any closer as Rang knocked home a kill to give the Tritons a 25-19 win in the opening set.

UMSL jumped out to a five-point lead to start the middle frame but the Saints battled back to even things at nine after an error by Humm. The Tritons scored five of the next seven points to retake the lead and wouldn’t trail the remainder of the stanza on their way to a 25-20 victory.

The final set was tied at 10 before UMSL pulled away with an 11-2 run. Rang had five kills and an ace during that run while Humm and Elliott had one kill each. Humm scored four of the final five points to clinch the 25-14 victory.

The Tritons hit .317 for the contest with 51 kills against 13 errors in 120 swings.

Maryville was held to a .151 hitting percentage with 36 kills against 18 errors in 119 chances. Ella Brinkman led the way with 13 kills while Grace Graham added 10 kills. Abbie Schnell had 15 assists, Taylor Hasbrook finished with a match-high 19 digs and Caroline Glastetter added three blocks.

UMSL is back on the road next weekend as it travels north to Fayette, Iowa, take play its first match ever at new GLVC member Upper Iowa. That contest will be on Friday at 6 p.m. Next Saturday, the Tritons will be in Kirksville, Mo., to play Truman State.

UMSL’s next home match will be Friday, November 3, when the Tritons will host Illinois-Springfield.
