After taking 10 days off, the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball team will continue its season opening six-game road trip this weekend with games in Minnesota and Michigan. The Tritons (1-1) will take on Winona State on Thursday at 6 p.m., then head to Houghton, Mich., to take on Michigan Tech on Saturday at noon.
UMSL opened its season going 1-1 at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in Lakeland, Fla., nearly two weeks ago. The Tritons lost the season opener to Cedarville, 75-70, but came back the next day to knock off then No. 16-ranked Bentley, 76-73.
Matt Enright led the team in scoring averaging 18.5 points per game and was named to the All-Tournament team. He was joined in double figures by Janeir Harris and Emanuel Prospere II with 13.5 points per game while Troy Glover II added 13 points and 10 points per outing. Enright also led the team with eight assists and four steals.
About Winona State – The Warriors enter Thursday night’s contest with a record of 2-0 after opening its season last weekend with wins over Arkansas-Monticello and Southern Arkansas in the Central Region Challenge in Kansas City.
Connor Dillon led Winona in scoring averaging 23.5 points per game while Connor Drew added 15.5 points per contest. Declan Dillon pulled down an average of 6.5 rebounds per outing and dished out a team-best nine assists.
The Warriors shot 51 percent from the field including 42 percent (18-for-43) from beyond the arc and 76 percent at the charity stripe.
About Michigan Tech – The Huskies opened their season last weekend at the Just A Game Crossover dropping a pair of contests to Missouri S&T and Upper Iowa in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. MTU fell to the Miners 75-72 in its season opener and then lost to the Peacocks 93-87 last Sunday.
The Huskies are averaging close to 80 points per contest but have allowed 84 points per game. They’re shooting 42 percent from the floor including 30 percent from three and 69 percent at the foul line. They were outrebounded by two rebounds per game last weekend.
Marcus Tomashek led the team in scoring with 24 points per outing while Adam Hobson, Nate Abel and Dawson Nordgaard averaged 12.5, 9.5 and 9.0 points per game respectively. Hobson and Pete Calcaterra led the team on the glass averaging 6.0 rebounds per contest.
Series History – Thursday’s contest against Winona State marks the first meeting all-time between the Tritons and Warriors.
Saturday’s contest is the second all-time meeting between UMSL and Michigan Tech with the Tritons winning the first meeting last season 75-57 at the Mark Twain Building.
