The United Football League 2024 season schedule was announced on Monday — a much anticipated event, especially in St. Louis, where Battlehawks fans have been waiting with bated breath to find out when their team will begin play during the spring football season.
After merging the USFL and XFL into one league, the UFL is set to begin what many expect to be an exciting inaugural season on March 30, with an opening game featuring the league champions from the two leagues last year.
The Birmingham Stallions won the USFL last year and will go on the road to play the XFL champion, Arlington Renegades. The entire UFL season will feature 43 total games — 40 regular season matchups, two conference championship games, and the UFL championship game on June 16.
Fans have been anticipating the schedule announcement since the league’s announced they would merge back in November. All 43 games will be televised on the ESPN and FOX family of networks.
“Through the combined reach of our partners at FOX and ESPN — who both share a commitment to broadcast innovation — the UFL will now have exceptional platforms through which fans can experience spring football,” Russ Brandon, UFL President/CEO said, in a statement released by the league. “We are equally excited to welcome new and returning fans back into our buildings this season, so they can immerse themselves in the energy around spring football. Our players are here to perform and to reach the next level and our fans are going to be treated to an excellent on-field product and in-stadium experience.”
The full league schedule involves each team playing six in-conference games and four inter-conference matchups, leading to the conference championships which will see the top two teams from each conference compete based on their records. The winners of those games will then meet the following week for the UFL championship.
“We’re excited to introduce fans to the United Football League with its high quality of play, innovative rules, and entertainment,” Tim Reed, ESPN Vice President, Programming & Acquisitions said. “Last year, we provided XFL fans with unparalleled, on-field access to players, coaches, and league officials. With the UFL kickoff season, we will further build upon that across our strong schedule, with games on ABC, ESPN, and every game on ESPN+, in addition to coverage across our social and digital platforms.”
The Battlehawks will begin their season on March 30, when they’ll travel to Detroit to play the Michigan Panthers. St. Louis will then head home for its home opener on April 6 against Arlington.
St. Louis will rotate between home and away every week. So in Week 3, the Battlehawks will play the San Antonio Brahmas, before heading back to The Dome at the America’s Center to play the Memphis Showboats on April 20.
Week 5 will have St. Louis in the nation’s capital to play the DC Defenders. Week 6 has the Battlehawks back home on May 4 to play the Houston Roughnecks.
In Week 7, St. Louis will be in Alabama to play Birmingham, before making its way back home for a Week 8 rematch against DC on May 19.
Weeks 9 and 10 will also be rematch games for the Battlehawks. They’ll be in Arlington on May 25 to play the Renegades, before closing the regular season on June 1 at home against San Antonio.
