The United Football League released the results of the first phase of its player dispersal draft on Monday. The draft was held on Friday and only a few names were announced, but the full list of players and what team they’ll be playing for was released yesterday.
Each team from the former XFL and former USFL was allowed to protect 42 players from its 2023 roster. Each team was then allowed to select up to 20 players from the rosters of teams within their previous league that will not be moving forward in 2024.
Players not protected or selected in this initial process will be placed in a pool of players who will be available for all UFL teams to choose from, regardless of previous league, in another round of player dispersal on January 15. Free agency for players who were not selected or did not play in the USFL or XFL in 2023 will continue on January 16.
The St. Louis Battlehawks picked 18 players in the draft and combined with the other 34 players the team had signed to contracts, now has 52 players on its roster.
In making its picks, the Battlehawks, Arlington Renegades, San Antonio Brahmas, and D.C. Defenders picked from the four XFL teams that weren’t in the merger, while the Houston Roughnecks, Birmingham Stallions, Michigan Panthers and Memphis Showboats were drafting from the disbanded USFL franchises.

Familiar names on the 2024 Battlehawks roster include 2023 standouts WR Hakeem Butler, DB Ben DeLuca, and LB Travis Feeney, and new team member WR Jahcour Pearson.
Training camp, which begins for the UFL on Feb. 24 in Arlington, will see all eight league teams bring 75 players to camp before rosters are pared down to 50 before the regular season starts on March 30.
The UFL’s 10-game regular season opens with a battle of the 2023 champions: Birmingham Stallions (USFL) vs. Arlington Renegades (XFL).
