NORMANDY, MO — After playing two weekend series in a row on the road and having not played a home game in nearly three weeks, the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team will be back home this weekend for a huge Great Lakes Valley Conference series against longtime foe Rockhurst University.
The Tritons and Hawks will play four games this weekend — one on Friday, two on Saturday, and the series finale on Sunday.
With less than a month left in the regular season, both teams are battling for a chance to play in the postseason.
UMSL will come into the weekend with a 21-16 record, which includes a four-game winning streak, and a 10-10 mark in GLVC league play. Those 10 conference wins have the Tritons tied with Upper Iowa for seventh place in the GLVC standings.
If the conference tournament began this weekend, UMSL and Upper Iowa would have the last two spots. Rockhurst, which is 16-15 on the year and 6-10 in the conference would miss the postseason tournament.
The Hawks have lost their last six games and need to real hot, real fast if their going to make the postseason this season.

Players to Watch: UMSL went through a really rough stretch at the end of March where it lost eight games in a row and nine out of 10. But the Tritons broke that string when they won three out of four at Drury last weekend.
Then, to cap that, UMSL pulled a a four-run comeback on Tuesday to knock off Missouri Western in the final game of a nine-game road trip.
Several players stood out for the Tritons during their recent run. Junior rightfielder and leadoff man Cooper Blythe leads the team with a .367 batting average and has two home runs and 12 RBIs this year.
Senior centerfielder Braedon Stoakes, an All-GLVC selection last year, is hitting .354, with two homers, 16 RBIs, and a team-best 25 stolen bases. Fellow 2024 All-conference choice Andrew Beuscher is hitting .323 and leads the Tritons with five homers and 30 RBIs.
But UMSL’s hottest hitter lately has been junior third baseman Cade Grevengoed, who has a six-game hitting streak in which he’s 11-for-25 (.440). The current hot stretch at the plate has raised Grevengoed’s average to .339 and has helped him bolt into the team lead with 35 RBIs.
On the mound, redshirt freshman Bryce Nicolay has a 3-1 record and leads UMSL with a 2.02 ERA. Senior teammate Zach Haygood (2-1) has made a team-best nine starts and pitched a team-most 52.2 innings.
Sophomore Dustin Hagens (2-3) has made eight starts and leads the Tritons with 63 strikeouts.

Despite its mediocre record, Rockhurst does feature one of the top hitting teams in the GLVC this season. The Hawks are hitting .306 as a team, which ranks fourth-best in the GLVC this season.
Rockhurst’s top hitter this season has been senior centerfielder Adonis Forte, who has a .383 batting average and 25 RBIs. Fellow senior Drew Cornelison is hitting .337 and leads the Hawks with nine home runs and 30 RBIs.
Starting pitchers Jake Canent and Michael Laudando both have 4-2 records.
Up Next: UMSL will host another home series next weekend. The Tritons will take on Upper Iowa in games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 17-19.
