After winning two straight to begin the new year, the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball team suffered its third straight loss on Saturday, when it fell 79-68 to Lewis University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Neil Carey Arena.
The loss was also the second straight on an eastern road trip for the Tritons, who lost at Indianapolis on Thursday, 69-64.
UMSL is now 7-10 on the season and 5-4 in GLVC play.
In the game against UIndy, the Tritons had the lead until midway through the second half, when the Greyhounds went on an 18-1 run to take a 10-point lead with two minutes remaining.
The Tritons made things interesting in the final minute, as they hit a pair of three-pointers to pull within 65-62. But that was as close as they’d get, as UIndy made its free throws down the stretch to close out the game.
Junior forward Mayson Quartlebaum scored 24 points to lead the UMSL offense. Sophomore Troy Glover had a double-double, with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
In the game against Lewis, UMSL’s only lead came when it made the first shot of the game — a three-pointer by Quartlebaum. After that, the Flyers responded with a 16-2 run to take control of the game, which they never relented before winning by 11.
Quartlebaum had 15 points, Glover had 10 points and seven rebounds, while junior Emanuel Prospere came off the bench to score 15 points and add three assists and three steals.
The Tritons will be home at the Mark Twain Building for a pair of games next week.
On Thursday, they’ll host Missouri S&T in a 7:30 p.m. matchup. Then, next Saturday, UMSL will host crosstown rival Maryville in a game at 3:30 p.m.
