ST. LOUIS — The Washington University football team suffered its worst loss of the season, Saturday evening at Francis Olympic Field. The Bears were facing No. 5-ranked Wheaton College and lost the game, 40-10.

The visiting Thunder scored on its opening drive to take control early, and dominated the rest of the game on both sides of the ball, as it outgained Wash. U., 386 total yards to just 153.

Running back Giovanni Weeks led the way for Wheaton, as he carried the ball 24 times for 170 yards and scored two touchdowns. Receiver Adam Terrini led the game in receiving. He caught eight passes for 93 yards and a touchdown.

The Wheaton defense also had a good night, as it held the Bears to just 7 total rushing yards and only allowed 11 first downs.

Wash. U. quarterback Matt Rush threw for 146 yards and a touchdown, but was also intercepted once.

The loss was Wash. U.’s first in CCIW conference play this year and dropped the Bears’ overall record to 2-2. Wheaton’s record this season is 3-1.

The Bears will look to bounce back next Saturday, October 9, when they’ll host another home game at Francis Olympic Field against Illinois Wesleyan. Opening kickoff for that game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
