The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin announced its Football Players of the Week on Monday, and Washington University defensive lineman Josh Hartman was one of the players the league chose to honor.
Hartman, who was making his first start of the season for the Bears, was named CCIW Defensive Player of the Week, after registering four tackles, including three tackles for loss and three quarterback sacks in Wash. U.’s dominating 54-7 win over Millikin this past Saturday.
The 6-foot, 240-pound sophomore from Plantation, Fla., was all over the field in leading the Bears’ defense, and he even helped Wash. U. put points on the board, as one of his sacks was in the Millikin end zone and resulted in a safety.
That play, along with an interception return for a touchdown, helped spark the Bears’ to their second straight win of the season.
Wash. U. will be back in action on Saturday, when it will play its first road game of the year against Carthage. The Bears will be back home in three weeks, when they’ll take on Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, October 1. That game will be played at Francis Olympic Field and is scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m.
