CLAYTON, MO – The Washington University women’s softball team finished off its rampage through March in glorious style, Sunday afternoon, when it closed out a four-game sweep over UAA league rival Brandeis University to push its current winning streak to five games in a row.

The Bears and Lady Judges played a single game on Friday, which Wash. U. won 5-3. Then on Saturday, the Bears swept a doubleheader over Brandeis by scores of 9-0 and 8-2, before closing out the weekend with a 5-3 win on Sunday.

Wash. U. now has a record of 16-4, with 12 of those wins coming in March, including a red-hot stretch since the beginning of the month, where the Bears have won 12 of their last 14 games.

Against Brandeis, the Bears were especially hot at the plate, where they smacked 16 extra-base hits in the four games, including a pair of home runs by Maggie Baumstark and Payton Irwin.

Sophomore utility player Ashley Kennedy also had a big weekend, as she notched six hits in the four games, including four doubles and five RBIs.

Pitchers Holly Stoner (6-1), Jamie Burgasser (4-1), Madison Denton (4-2), and Jordan Rossi (2-1) got the wins in the circle over the weekend, with Stoner also earning a save in Sunday’s win.

Moving into April, the Bears will be home for another UAA series, this time against Case Western Reserve, in what should be a showdown between the conference’s best two clubs.

Wash. U. will enter the weekend with a 4-0 league record and Case is 3-0 after sweeping NYU last weekend.

Friday’s game will begin at 3 p.m. The two games on Saturday will be played noon and 2 p.m., with Sunday’s contest scheduled for 11 a.m.
