FORT WAYNE, IN — The Washington University men’s basketball team’s magical run to the NCAA Division III Final Four ended on Thursday, when the Bears lost in the national semifinals to No. 1-ranked New York University, 72-60, in a game at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

This was the third time WashU played NYU this season and the Bears lost to the Violets all three times. All three games went basically the same way.

The game started out even, with WashU even taking a brief lead, but then NYU found its rhythm and took control of the game. The Violets led by six points at halftime and pushed a 10-2 run to push their lead to as many as 15 points in the second half.

WashU finished its season with a 23-7 record and made its deepest run in the D3 National Tournament since it won the national championship in 2009.

Seniors Hayden Doyle and Drake Kindsvater led the WashU offense. Doyle scored 17 points, while Kindsvater added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Connor May chipped in 10 point and six rebounds as well.

NYU will face Trinity College in the championship game on Saturday.
