BLOOMINGTON, IL — The Washington University football team will play its second straight road game on Saturday, when it travels up to Tucci Stadium to take on Illinois Wesleyan.
It’ll be Homecoming Day in Bloomington, so the host Titans are sure to be fired up for what should be a fun CCIW matchup against the Bears.
WashU will come to town coming off a 49-9 bruising at the hands of NCAA Division III No. 1 North Central last week. Illinois Wesleyan won its game last week, 35-0, over Carthage.
The Bears didn’t have a whole lot go right in their meeting with North Central. The top-ranked Cardinals put up over 500 yards of total offense and held WashU to just under 150 total yards. The one bright spot was WashU forced three turnovers and almost had double that, as the Bears also forced three fumbles.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t nearly enough in a matchup against the No. 1 D3 team in the country.
IWU controlled the action from wire-to-wire in its game against Carthage and outgained the visiting Firebirds, 350-166.

Players to Watch: Sophomore QB Levi Moore started in place of senior Clark Stephens for the Bears last week and didn’t have a very productive day. He passed for just 42 yards and rushed for negative-18 yards — most of that due to the four times he was sacked by the North Central defense.
WashU hopes to have Stephens back this week. But the Bears fully expect Moore to have a more productive day on Saturday, if he gets the call.
WR Collin Goldberg leads the CCIW with 25 receptions for 265 yards this season.
IWU QB Dermot Smyth threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third in the Titans’ win last week. RB Danny Kent also had a big day. He rushed for 103 yards and scored two touchdowns himself.
The IWU defense was powered by LB Frank Roti, who had 11 tackles (eight solo) and a quarterback sack last week. Senior DL Zach McNees, who’s from Hillsboro, Mo., had six tackles, including three quarterback sacks, which helped earn him the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week award this week.
Up Next: WashU will be back home next Saturday, with its own matchup against Carthage.
Kickoff at Francis Olympic Field is set for 1 p.m.
