CLAYTON, MO — The Washington University football team put up its largest point total in nearly a decade on Saturday, when it defeated Millikin University, 70-21, in a CCIW league game at Francis Olympic Field.
The 70 points was the most WashU scored in a game since it blasted Millsaps College 70-32 in 2015.
On Saturday, the Bears scored 10 touchdowns and put up 769 total yards (519 rushing, 250 passing). WashU scored on each of its first five possessions and led 35-0 early in the second quarter.
Millikin scored two touchdowns to get back into the game, but the Bears scored two more touchdowns of their own late in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 49-14 lead.
The visitors scored on their first drive of the third quarter, before WashU put up the final three touchdowns to close out the record-breaking day.
Several WashU players had big days on offense. Quarterback Levi Moore 11-of-17 passes for 221 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. Receiver Collin Goldberg caught two passes for 102 yards, including a 96-yard touchdown.
Running back Kenneth Hamilton had 13 carries for 155 yards and three touchdowns, which all came in the second quarter on runs of 58, 4, and 6 yards. Reserve back Cal Newell also had 13 carries and rushed for a career-high 117 yards and a touchdown.
Fred Ware had 81 yards and two touchdowns, and Kenvorris Campbell put up 72 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, 17 different players registered at least one tackle, led by linebacker Brady Willmer, who had six total (five solo) and a quarterback sack.
WashU RB Kenneth Hamilton rushed for 155 yards and scored three touchdowns in the Bears’ 70-21 win over Millikin on Saturday.
With the win, WashU is now 6-2 on the season and 5-2 in the CCIW. Millikin fell to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
Next week, the third-place Bears will be on the road, outside of Chicago, to take on fourth-place North Park. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
WashU’s next home game will also be its final regular season game, on Saturday, November 16, when the Bears will host Augustana.
Kickoff that day is also scheduled for 12 p.m.
