CLAYTON, MO — The Washington University football team earned its third straight win in a rain-shortened game on Saturday. The Bears defeated visiting Elmhurst University, 17-0, in a CCIW league game that was called after a long rain delay at halftime.
WashU is now 5-1 on the season and remains tied for second place in the conference with a 4-1 league mark. Elmhurst is 1-5 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
The Bears outgained the Bluejays 304 totaled yards to just 41, and even though the game only lasted a half, WashU posted 15 first downs, while Elmhurst had just three.
The Bluejays had a chance to take an early lead, when they recovered a fumble deep in Bears’ territory. But the WashU defense held and forced a turnover on downs that gave the home team the ball back without Elmhurst scoring ay points.
From that point on, the Bears dominated the game.

WashU quarterback Levi Moore posted 164 yards of total offense — 124 passing and 40 rushing — and played a hand in both his team’s touchdowns.
Moore opened the scoring with a sensational 32-yard touchdown run that gave the Bears a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
The Bears had their longest drive of the day on their next possession, a 16-play, 78-yard drive that ended with a 20-yard field goal by placekicker Matias Adrogue and put WashU up 10-0 early in the second quarter.
The WashU defense forced a three-and-out on Elmhurst’s next possession and a short punt, coupled with a nice return by Makael Carter gave the Bears the ball at their own 45-yard line.
Three plays later, Moore hit Carter for a 45-yard touchdown that put WashU up 17-0.
The rain got much stronger after that. The teams were able to finish the half, but the officials decided is what raining too hard to start the second half on time, so the game was delayed.
The delay lasted more than two hours before the final decision was made to end the game.

WashU will be on the road next week for a huge matchup against one of the teams it is currently tied for second place in the conference with, Wheaton College. The Thunder are 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the CCIW, following their own win on Saturday over Carthage College.
Kickoff for next Saturday’s game at Wheaton’s McCully Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
WashU’s final home game of the regular season will be on November 8, when the Bears will host North Park. Kickoff at Francis Olympic Field that day will be 12 p.m.
