CLAYTON, MO — The NCAA Division III nation softball tournament selection show was Monday evening and the broadcast revealed some good news for the Washington University Lady Bears.
Not only did WashU earn an at-large bid into the D3 national tournament, the Lady Bears were also selected to host one of the 16 regional tournaments that will help determine the 2024 NCAA champion.
WashU, which went 26-10 during the regular season and finished second in the UAA standings with a 15-5 conference record, will begin its postseason run on Thursday, when it will host Greenville University in a 12 p.m. game at the WashU Softball Field.
The other two teams playing in the WashU Regional are Grinnell and Belhaven. Those teams will play in a game following the WashU/Greenville matchup.
The winners of those two contests will meet in a game on Friday, with the winner of that matchup advancing to the regional championship round. The losing teams will meet an elimination game, which will eventually determine the other team advancing to the championship round. Those games will be played on Saturday.
The regional champion will advance to the super regionals next weekend. The eight super regional champions will advance to play in the NCAA Division III finals, which will be played in Marshall, Tex., June 1-7.
