KIRKSVILLE, MO — The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s softball team pushed its season-high winning streak to 10 games on Sunday, when it swept a doubleheader over host Truman State. The Tritons won Game 1, 10-5, then took Game 2, 10-2.

Along with scoring 20 runs, the UMSL offense combined for 22 hits, drew 10 walks, and had five runners reach base due to Truman State errors.

Pitching-wise, Mimi Bradley (4-0) and Jenna Towle (8-2) picked up the wins for the Tritons. Both came in as relievers — Bradley in Game 1, and Towle in Game 2 — and not only pitched well, but sparked the UMSL hitters to find their stroke.

In Game 1, UMSL was trailing 3-2 when Bradley came in to get the final out of the fourth inning. The Tritons then burst open for three runs in the top of the fifth and five runs in the top of the sixth to pull away for a 10-5 win.

The big blow in that game came in the top of the sixth, when senior shortstop Irene Travis blasted a three-run home run — her third of the season — to put the Lady Bulldogs away.

Travis finished the game with four RBIs and was one of five UMSL hitters to have at least two hits, including Katie Schaake, who also hit a home run in that sixth inning.

In Game 2, Towle came in the final out of the third, with the score tied at 2. The Tritons then turned around and scored four runs in the fourth, three runs in the fifth, and a final run in the sixth to earn a 10-2 victory.

In that game, Mackenzie Lamos and Courtney Settles were the standouts. Lamos had three hits, two RBIs, and scored two runs, while Settles had two hits, three RBIs, and also scored a run.

The Tritons, who are now 20-10 on the season and 6-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, will be back in action and back at home next weekend, when they’ll host doubleheaders against Southwest Baptist and Rockhurst.

The two games against SBU will be on Saturday, April 1, at the UMSL Softball Field, with Game 1 scheduled for noon and Game 2 slated for 2 p.m.

The twinbill against Rockhurst will be on Sunday, April 2. Those games will also be played at the UMSL Softball Field and are scheduled to begin at 12 and 2.
