ST. CHARLES, MO — Freshman forward Mackenzie Compton scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Lindenwood University women’s soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Southeast Missouri, Sunday night, in an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament first round game at Hunter Stadium.

Third-seeded Lindenwood now advances to the semifinals, where it will play second-seeded Little Rock on Thursday. The winner will advance to the OVC Tournament championship game, which will be played on Sunday.

“Everything came together tonight,” Lindenwood head coach Dave Musso, the 2024 OVC Coach of the Year, said. “It was great finishing our last home game with this high level performance. This group keeps getting better. I’m proud of this group for setting the bar for the program.”

The Lions are 9-5-4 on the season and played to a scoreless draw when they faced Little Rock back on October 20.

In Sunday’s matchup against SEMO, Lindenwood got off to a quick start when it scored two goals in the first three minutes of the game.

The first came at the 2:05 mark when Anna Johnson scored her fifth goal of the season, on a play set up by Compton. Less than a minute later, the duo combined again. This time, with Johnson setting up Compton for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

A bit later, Compton scored again by tapping in a rebound following a shot and pass by teammates Jessica Dodd and Allison Schrumpf. Compton, who last week was voted OVC Freshman of the Year, now has seven goals on the season, which has her tied with two others for fourth-most in the conference.

Lindenwood’s final goal came in the second half, when another freshman, Maddy Vasiloff, scored on a play assisted by Peyton Hatfield and Georgia Pardalos, to make the score 4-0.

Goalkeeper Caroline Ritter made four saves to get the shutout win. It was Lindenwood’s ninth shutout of the season.

Thursday’s semifinals and Sunday’s championship game will be played on No. 1 seed Tennessee Tech’s campus in Cookeville, Tenn.
