NORMANDY, MO — The No. 9-ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s soccer team clinched its second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season championship by defeating crosstown rival Maryville University, 5-0, Wednesday evening at Don Dallas Field.
The Tritons, who are now 12-1-3 on the season, also extended their unbeaten streak to 15 straight games, with the only loss this season coming in the season opener back on August 27.
Junior back Madi Riege scored two goals, including the first score of the night, to lead the UMSL offense. Teammates Madi Clark and Avery Hesseldenz both had two assists.

The first score of the night came on a corner kick, when Clark drifted a pass into the Maryville box that Riege headed home for her second goal of the season. Ten minutes later, Josie Maddox scored her fifth goal of the season on a play set up by Hesseldenz and Maddy Kuhn.
UMSL got its third goal of the first half in the 43rd minute, when Ella Hickam scored on a similar play as Maddox, which was set up by Hesseldenz and Sophia Beedle.
Those three goals put UMSL in firm control, but the Tritons kept pouring it on in the second half.
In the 59th minute, sophomore Ella Anselm scored her team-leading eighth goal, on a rebound off a free kick from Clark. Then in the 82nd minute, Riege capped off the night with another corner kick header, set up by Aubrey Rego.
The Tritons outshot Maryville 14-9, with eight shots on goal to just four for the Saints.
UMSL goalkeeper Allysa Wolf made four saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season.

The Tritons have now clinched the No. 1 seed for the GLVC Tournament, which will begin with a home game on Saturday, October 31, against an opponent that is yet to be determined.
UMSL did announce that that game on Halloween night will begin at 5 p.m., and it will be streamed live on the GLVC Sports Network.
Before the postseason begins, UMSL will conclude the regular season this Sunday, with a trip to Rolla for a road game against Missouri S&T. That contest will kick off at noon and will also be streamed live on the GLVC Sports Network.
