COLUMBIA, MO — The University of Missouri men’s basketball team earned one of its biggest wins of recent memory, Wednesday night, when it defeated No. 4 Alabama, 110-98, in a Southeastern Conference game at Mizzou Arena.
Missouri led the contest from start to finish. The Tigers jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never trailed at any point throughout the game.
Mizzou led by as many as 20 points and Alabama trimmed its deficit to as little as six points at two different occasions in the second half, but the Crimson Tide could never get closer, as the Tigers cruised to a dynamite victory.
Head coach Dennis Gates headed off any possible court-storming celebration by the Mizzou fans by calling a timeout in the final seconds then getting on the PA microphone and asking the Tiger fans to not storm the court.
The Missouri fans complied and kept their celebration fun in the stands.
The victory lifted Mizzou’s record to 20-6 overall and 9-4 in SEC play, while Alabama fell to 21-5 and 10-3 in the conference. The Tide is now tied for second place in the league standings with Florida, while Mizzou moved into a fourth-place tie with Texas A&M.

Junior Mark Mitchell led Missouri with a career-high 31 points and teammate Caleb Grill added 25 points and 10 rebounds for a Missouri team that is ranked No. 15 in the country and has now won three games in a row, with all three wins coming in blowout fashion.
The Tigers blasted Oklahoma (82-58) and Georgia (87-74) last week and throttled Alabama on Wednesday. Mizzou now owns three top-five wins for just the second time in school history — also accomplishing the feat in 1988-89 — and are one of two schools nationally this season with three top-five victories.
Mizzou’s 110 points is its highest-scoring performance in a regulation conference game since Jan. 13, 1990, when it managed 111 versus Nebraska. MU also tallied 112 points in a Jan. 13, 2001 contest versus Iowa State, but needed four overtimes to do so.
Sophomore Anthony Robinson II added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting while collecting three steals and a pair of assists and rebounds. And seniors Tamar Bates and Tony Perkins also scored in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Tigers will be on the road for their next outing. Mizzou will be in Fayetteville on Saturday to take on Arkansas.
That contest will tip off at 7 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena and will be televised nationally on ESPN.
