COLUMBIA, MO — The University of Missouri men’s basketball team bounced back from a difficult loss last Saturday at Arkansas by pounding South Carolina, 101-71, in a game Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena.

Six different Missouri players scored in double figures, as the Tigers posted their largest SEC win in more than a decade. The 30-point victory improved Mizzou’s record to 21-7 overall and 10-5 in conference play.

Grad student Caleb Grill led Missouri with 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting, a stark contrast from the 2-for-12 night he had in the game at Arkansas. Grill also had five rebounds and four steals to help energize the Mizzou attack.

“I don’t think there’s any difference in my preparation, just take and make open shots,” Grill said. “Unfortunately I didn’t make them in Fayetteville, but getting back on track tonight was good and seeing the ball go through the rim.”

Sophomore Anthony Robinson had 14 points and eight assists. Teammates Tony Perkins and Mark Mitchell both had 13 points and three assists, while Jacob Crews added 10 points.

The key stretch in the game came early in the first half, when Mizzou went on a 23-6 run to grab a double-digit lead. From there, South Carolina never got closer than 12 points and trailed in the second half by as many as 32 points.

“We made some mistakes last time,” Mizzou head coach Dennis Gates said. “There were a lot of things we just didn’t do right. We didn’t execute how we should or how we can. We wanted to fix that tonight and I thought we did.”

Missouri remains tied with Tennessee for fourth place in the SEC standings. Both clubs are 10-5 after the Volunteers defeated LSU. Tuesday night.

Both teams also gained ground on Florida, which lost to Georgia. The Gators are in third place at 11-4. Texas A&M is 9-5 and will play Vanderbilt on Wednesday.

Mizzou’s next game will also be against Vanderbilt. Those teams will play on Saturday at Vanderbilt’s Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville.

Tip off is set for 5 p.m., and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.
