ST. LOUIS, MO — The Saint Louis University baseball team turned a tight ballgame into a blowout on Tuesday, when it scored 11 runs over the course of four innings to earn a 12-2 run-rule win over Butler University in a game at the Billiken Sports Complex.
SLU scored a single run in the bottom of the third, two runs in the fourth, seven runs in the fifth, and another run in the sixth to cruise to a fun, non-conference victory over the visiting Bulldogs.
Saint Louis totaled 12 hits and drew 12 walks, as it put runners on base in every inning but the first.
Four Billiken batters had at least two hits, led by junior rightfielder and leadoff man Ian Blazier, who had three hits. Teammates Ethan Sitzman, Max McGwire, and Chase Beattie all had two hits apiece.
Blazier also walked twice and had a stole base. But his biggest contribution was the four runs he drove in.
Sitzman and McGwire both had two RBIs also, as did cleanup hitter Brenden Stressler.

On the mound, the Billikens made it a “bullpen day”, and used a number of their relief pitchers to get through the day. Freshman Ty Holman made the start and pitched two clean innings without giving up any hits or runs.
Redshirt Christian Pownall, a transfer from Ohio State, pitched an inning and a third. Redshirt junior Carter Kelsey (1-0) got the win, after getting the final out of the fourth inning.
Justin Lee, Karl Ralamb, and Kobe Allen all pitched clean innings to close out the game.
The win lifted SLU’s overall record to 13-11, while Butler fell to 6-16.
The Billikens will return to action this weekend, when they’ll host a three-game set against Atlantic 10 Conference foe, St. Bonaventure.
The clubs will play single games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Billiken Sports Complex, beginning with a 6 p.m. on Friday night.
