The University of Missouri men’s basketball program landed its first commitment from the recently opened transfer portal on Thursday, when former Loyola Marymount forward Jevon Porter committed to join the Tigers next season.

The Columbia, Mo., native will join older brothers Michael Porter, Jr., and Jontay Porter as members of the Missouri basketball family.

The 6-foot-11, 235-pounder averaged 12.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 0.8 steals per game for a Loyola Marymount team that went 17-15 and lost in the second round of the West Coast Conference Tournament this past season.

Jevon Porter began his college career at Pepperdine during the 2022-23 season, where he averaged 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds a game, while also shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from three-point range. He made the WCC All-Freshman Team.

An offseason injury nearly derailed his sophomore season, but Jevon went on to have a dynamite season, where he scored 16.2 points per game and was named to the WCC All-Conference Honorable Mention team.

Former SLU head coach Lorenzo Romar was Pepperdine’s coach, but he got fired following that season. He took a job as an assistant at Loyola Marymount, which is how Jevon Porter wound up playing for the Lions last season.

With seniors Tamar Bates, Caleb Grill, and Josh Gray running out of eligibility and junior Aidan Shaw announcing his intentions to transfer, Missouri will likely be looking to add four new players to the roster for next season. Jevon Porter is addition No. 1 and Mizzou will likely continue to look to add at least three others.
