HOUSTON, TX — The first week of the 2025 United Football League season is finally here.
And fans of the St. Louis Battlehawks will finally get their first look at their new team, when it takes on the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL season opener, Friday night at TDECU Stadium.
The UFL will be beginning its second season in existence, after the merger between the USFL and XFL following the 2023 spring football season.
The Battlehawks defeated the Roughnecks, 22-8, in the teams’ only meeting last season. The game was played in St. Louis and was dominated by both defenses. St. Louis led throughout, but didn’t take firm control of the game until then-quarterback A.J. McCarron hit all-league wide receiver Hakeem Butler for a 36-yard touchdown to put the game away.
Players to Watch: In three games a season ago, Manny Wilkins threw for 306 yards (102.0 per game), with one touchdown and three interceptions, and a completion percentage of 54.0%.
Jacob Saylors rushed for 460 yards (51.1 per game) and five touchdowns in nine games last year.
Butler had 45 catches for 653 yards (65.3 per game) and five touchdowns in 10 games.
With 56 catches for 604 yards and three touchdowns, Justin Hall was a crucial performer in the passing game for the Roughnecks last season.
In five games, Nolan Henderson threw for 527 yards (105.4 yards per game) to go along with two touchdowns, one interception, and a completion percentage of 58.1%.
Last year, former Mizzou standout Keke Chism caught 33 balls on 53 targets for 353 yards and one touchdown.

Up Next: The Battlehawks will host their 2025 home opener, next weekend at The Dome at America’s Center, when the hated San Antonio Brahmas come to town for a game on Sunday, April 6.
Kickoff that day is slated for 5:30 p.m., and the game will be televised nationally on FS1.
