ST. LOUIS, MO — The Saint Louis University baseball team earned its third win in a row on Tuesday, when it defeated Lindenwood University, 14-5, in a non-conference game at the Billiken Sports Complex.
Saint Louis banged out 12 hits and scored at least one run in every inning but the first, as it cruised to victory over the visiting Lions.

The Billikens were led by third baseman Chase Beattie, who hit two home runs in the game and drove in a career-best five runs.
Beattie, a junior from Lake St. Louis, was making just his 10th start of the season. But he made it an unforgettable one, when drove in the first run of the game in the second inning, then hit a three-run homer in the sixth, before closing out his night with a solo shot in the eighth.
Teammates Brenden Stressler and Ian Halverson also homered to help carry Saint Louis to an exciting win.
Lindenwood also hit three homers in the game, led by Evan Funkhouser, whose two-run shot in the third inning tied the game at 2. Teammate Charlie Isom-McCall also homered in the third to give the Lions a 3-2 lead.
That lead was short lived, because Stressler homered in the bottom of the third — his team-leading eighth of the season — to tie the game at 3.
Lindenwood’s Brodie Short homered in the top of the fourth to put the Lions back in front. But SLU rallied again. This time with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good.

SLU sophomore Stephen Hernandez (2-2) got the win on the mound. He came in relief to get the final out of the fourth inning, then pitched the fifth to become the pitcher of record once the Billikens had the lead.
Senior Richie Cimpric and junior Carter Kelsey pitched the final four innings and neither allowed any runs. Cimpric went three innings and gave up three hits and hit a batter, but he was strong in his performance.
Kelsey was dynamite as well. He went one inning and didn’t give up any hits or walks. In fact, it was the third straight strong appearance for Kelsey, who has now appeared in five straight games the Billikens won.

Isom-McCall is now hitting .324 on the season for the Lions, with four home runs and 27 RBIs. The freshman from St. Louis has started all but one game for Lindenwood this season.
The Lions (17-19) will be on the road this weekend. They’ll be in Cape Girardeau to play at three-game set against SEMO.
SLU (20-16) will be home this weekend, hosting VCU. The series between the Billikens and Rams will begin on Thursday, with a game at the Billiken Sports Complex at 4 p.m.
