CLAYTON, MO — The Washington University football team will be back at home Francis Olympic Field on Saturday, when it will host Elmhurst in an NCAA Division III and CCIW league game at 1 p.m.
The Bears are coming off a pair of sensational wins. Two weeks ago, WashU held off a fiesty Illinois Wesleyan team for a 42-40 victory. Then last week, the Bears knocked off Carthage, 31-23, in double overtime.
WashU will head into this weekend’s matchup with Elmhurst with a 4-1 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the CCIW, which has the Bears sitting in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings.
Elmhurst is 1-4 on the year and winless in the conference, at 0-4. The Bluejays won their season opener, but have lost four straight since.
Last year, WashU defeated Elmhurst 49-10 in a game in Elmhurst, Ill.

Players to Watch: WashU will come into Saturday’s contest boasting the CCIW’s second-best rushing attack. The Bears are averaging 233.8 yards per game, which trails only No. 1-ranked and defending national champion, North Central, for most rush yards in the CCIW.
Senior tailback Fred Ware leads the Bears in rushing and is third in the conference, with 418 yards and five touchdowns this season. Sophomore Matthew Kinoshita is fifth in the conference with 344 yards.
Quarterback Levi Moore, who played a hand in all four touchdowns WashU scored last week, with two touchdown passes and two touchdown runs, has rushed for 329 yards and scored six touchdowns this season.
Moore has also thrown for 673 yards and 11 touchdown passes.
The WashU defense is led by linebacker Joy Chane, who has 38 total tackles (19 solo) this season.
Elmhurst running back Jeffery Elms is fourth in the CCIW with 356 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
