CHARLESTON, IL — The Lindenwood University men’s basketball team won its third straight game and won its Ohio Valley Conference opener on Saturday, when it defeated Eastern Illinois, 82-74.

Four of Lindenwood’s five starters scored in double figures, led by sophomore guard Jadis Jones, who scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Lions.

Fellow sophomore Dontrez Williams had 18 points and four assists, while seniors Anias Futrell and Milos Nenadic added 15 points and 11 points, respectively.

Lindenwood trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half and was down 41-34 at halftime, but the Lions stormed back in a big way in the second half.

First, they began the half with a 13-4 run in the first five minutes to grab the lead at 47-45. Then, after the teams traded baskets to tie the game at 57 with eight minutes to play, the Lions went on a 14-6 run to go ahead 71-63 with four minutes to play.

From there, the teams mostly traded free throws, with Eastern Illinois never getting closer than six points and Lindenwood pushing its lead to as many as 12.

The Panthers made a couple of layups in the final 10 seconds to make the score closer, but Lindenwood controlled the second half and that proved enough to win the game.

The Lions are now 5-4 on the season, with a 1-0 record in the OVC.

Lindenwood will be back home next week to begin a three-game homestand at Hyland Arena.

First, the Lions will host Culver-Stockton in a non-conference game on Tuesday, December 9. Then after a week off for finals, Lindenwood will face Western Illinois on December 18 and Harris-Stowe on December 10. The Lions will close the 2025 portion of their schedule with a game at Missouri State on December 23.

The Culver-Stockton game will tip off at 6 p.m.
