The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to five straight games and took over sole possession of first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings, thanks to a pair of road wins this week over Rockhurst and Southwest Baptist.
The UMSL women are 12-2 overall and 8-0 in GLVC play, after knocking off the Lady Hawks 58-43 on Thursday and the Lady Bearcats 84-54 on Saturday.
The Tritons were dominant start-to-finish in both games.
Against Rockhurst, UMSL was especially good in the second half, when it outscored the Lady Hawks 30-13 over the final two quarters.
Junior forward Mara Rieder led the for UMSL, posting her seventh double-double of the season, with 20 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. She also had three blocked shots and a steal.
Teammates Jayden Kuper, a freshman from Iowa, added 11 points and three steals, while Morgan Rathmun, a senior and native St. Louisan, chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds.

Against Southwest Baptist, UMSL grabbed the lead midway through the first quarter and never trailed again. The Tritons were especially good in the second quarter, when they outscored the Lady Bearcats 28-10 to build a 50-21 halftime lead.
The third and fourth quarters were much of the same, as UMSL cruised to victory.
Rieder scored a game-high 26 points — her sixth straight game scoring at least 20 points. Rathmun was fantastic too, posting a season-high 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Kuper also played a great game, with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The Tritons will be home the next couple of weeks for a three-game homestand at the Mark Twain Building. The three-game set will begin with a matchup against Missouri S&T on Thursday, January 15. Tip off for that contest is set for 5:30 p.m.
UMSL will also face Lincoln University on Saturday, January 17, and crosstown rival Maryville University on the following Saturday, January 24. Both of those matchups will tip off at 1 p.m.
