LIBERTY, MO — The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team is beginning the month of April on a red-hot streak.
The Tritons were in the Kansas City area over the weekend for a four-game series against Great Lakes Valley Conference foe William Jewell. UMSL won all four games — extending its current winning streak to six games — by scores of 10-3, 9-2, 6-2, and 6-1.
The Tritons hit and pitched well all weekend.
The star of the weekend undoubtedly though, was senior first baseman Mitch Bonczkowski, who hit four home runs in the four games to raise his season and GLVC-leading total to 15, which also ties the UMSL program record for home runs in a season. Bonczkowski is also now just two homers shy of setting the UMSL career mark.

Other stars of the weekend included junior right fielder Owen Faith, who had nine hits in the series, including going 4-for-4 in each of the first two games of the series. Junior third baseman Justin Simard had three hits in Game 1 and two more in Game 4, to go along with four RBIs.
The underclassman trio of L.J. Randle, Justin Terhaar, and Brandon Johnson had two hits apiece in Game 3, with backup catcher Noah Tomaras adding a two-hit effort in Game 4.
Reliever Ryan Karl, who just returned from an injury in late March, picked up his first win as a Triton in Game 1. That set up a pair of brilliant pitching efforts in a doubleheader on Saturday by senior Eli Cartwright and sophomore Bryce Nicolay.
Cartwright, who leads the GLVC with a 6-1 record and a 1.46 ERA, went five innings and allowed just one run on five hits, with no walks and five strikeouts. Then in the nightcap, Nicolay (3-4) went seven innings and gave up just two runs on four hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
In the final game of the series, senior Garrett Brunstetter (3-0) made his first start of the season and went six shutout innings, with just five hits allowed to go along with three walks and a season-high nine strikeouts.

UMSL is now 18-14 on the season, with a 12-4 mark in GLVC play, which is good enough for sole possession of fourth place in the league standings.
The Tritons will be back in action on Tuesday, when they’ll begin a five-game homestand with a GLVC matchup against Illinois-Springfield. First pitch that afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field is set for 2 p.m.
Next weekend, UMSL be the host of a four-game series against McKendree. The Tritons and Bearcats will play one game on Friday (2 p.m.), a doubleheader on Saturday (12 p.m. and 3 p.m.), and another single game on Sunday (12 p.m.).
