NORMANDY, MO — After winning big in Game 1 on Friday, then getting swept in a doubleheader on Saturday, the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team went hit crazy and run crazier on Sunday to salvage a four-game series swept with Great Lakes Valley Conference rival McKendree.
UMSL banged out 12 hits and scored a season-best 17 runs in a 17-2 run-rule shortened seven inning game, Sunday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field.
Junior right fielder Owen Faith and fellow junior catcher Garrett Strenger both had huge days for the Tritons. Faith went three-for-three at the plate and also walked twice to reach base five times.
One of those hits was a deep fly, grand slam home run over the left field wall — Faith’s fifth homer of the season. He also had an RBI single in the four-run first inning UMSL had to begin the game.
Strenger also had three hits — all of which were doubles, which tied an UMSL single-game record for most doubles in a game. He also had five RBIs and scored three runs.

Senior Garrett Brunstetter picked up the win. It was his second straight start and fourth straight appearance in which he got the win. Brunstetter worked mostly in limited relief for most of the season, but he had two dynamic appearances at the end of March that earned him a start last week against William Jewell.
Brunstetter pitched six shutout innings and had nine strikeouts that day. On Sunday, he was almost as good, going six innings and allowing just two runs on six hits, with four walks and four strikeouts.
The lefthander from Louisville, Ky., is now 4-0 on the season.

Overall, the Tritons are 20-17 on the season and are tied for fourth place in the GLVC standings with a 14-6 league mark.
UMSL will face a mighty test next weekend, as it goes on the road for a four-game series against the team it is tied for fourth with, No. 7-ranked Indianapolis. The Greyhounds are on a 10-game winning streak and have not lost a single game in the month of April.

UMSL’s next home game will be April 24 against Lincoln.
