CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN — The No. 8-ranked Washington University football team stayed unbeaten this season, when it defeated Wabash College, 27-17, in an NCAA Division III football game, Saturday afternoon at Little Giants Stadium.
The now 7-0 Bears used a balanced attack of rushing and passing to put up 321 total yards against a previously stout Wabash defense.
WashU quarterback Levi Moore completed 14-of-22 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bears. Running back Brayden Lewis carried the ball 16 times for 103 yards and a score. It was his second 100-yard rushing day of the season.

Senior receiver Makael Carter caught a game-high six passes for 91 yards, while teammate Colin Donahue caught two passes — both for touchdowns.
On defense, linebacker Joy Chane had nine tackles (two solo), including 1.5 quarterback sacks, while cornerback Brett Kersemeier also had nine stops (six solo) to go along with his second interception of the season.
WashU controlled the action in the first half, when it got touchdowns from Matthew Kinoshita and Donahue — both on passes from Moore — to go into halftime ahead 13-0.
Wabash rallied and took the lead with 17 straight points in the third quarter. It had been the first time WashU trailed in a game since the beginning of its matchup against John Carroll three weeks ago.
But the Bears didn’t panic and dominated the fourth quarter to re-take the lead and win the game.
First, WashU took advantage of a short punt to take possession in Wabash territory, where it drove 41 yards on five plays for a score (6-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Donahue), which gave the Bears the lead.
Then, WashU put the game away with a second short drive, following a blocked punt, that gave the Bears the ball on the Wabash 44 yard line. That three-play drive culminated with a 30-yard touchdown scamper by Lewis that put WashU up two scores with just over five minutes remaining.
From that point on, the WashU defense took over and refused to let Wabash move the ball anywhere near scoring territory. The Bears were able to run out the clock to cinch the win.
WashU is now 7-0 on the season, with a chance to maintain its status as the only unbeaten team in the North Coast Athletic Conference, when it faces Denison University in a key conference game next week.
The Bears will host the Big Red, next Saturday at Francis Olympic Field at 1 p.m.
