The Reese’s Senior Bowl named University of Missouri linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper its National Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, following the Tigers’ come-from-behind win over No. 15 Kansas State this past Saturday.
Hopper, a senior from Shelby, N.C., finished with eight tackles – six solos and two assists – along with a pair of pass breakups, two quarterback hurries, and a tackle for a loss in Missouri’s 30-27 victory.
One of Mizzou’s captains, Hopper is on the watch lists for the Butkus Award, Nagurski Trophy and Senior Bowl. He was a Preseason Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference honoree from the league’s coaches and media.
Athlon made him a preseason Third-Team All-America selection and a First-Team All-SEC honoree. He earned Phil Steele Third-Team Preseason All-SEC awards. He was graded as the No. 2 returning linebacker in the league by PFF College – behind teammate Chad Bailey.
The Tigers (3-0) return to action on Saturday, September 23, when the team will travel to St. Louis to take on Memphis in the “Mizzou to the Lou Classic” at The Dome at America’s Center. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m., with the game scheduled to air on ESPNU and the Tiger Radio Network.
It will be Missouri’s first football game in St. Louis since 2010.
ABOUT THE SENIOR BOWL
The Reese’s Senior Bowl is widely regarded as the preeminent college football all-star game and the first stage in the NFL Draft process. The longest continual-running all-star game has taken place in Mobile the past 74 years.
More than 900 NFL personnel, including key decision-makers from all 32 teams, and over 1,100 media members from around the country were credentialed last year. In each of the past three years, the Reese’s Senior Bowl has had 100 or more players drafted and over 40 percent of the entire draft class, which are both record-setting figures for any all-star game.
