NEWARK, NJ — The No. 3-ranked Washington University women’s soccer team stayed unbeaten and handed No. 22 New York University its first UAA loss of the season, with a 1-0 road win, Sunday afternoon at Rutgers-Newark University’s Frederick Douglass Field.

The Bears are 12-0 on the season, with a 3-0 mark in conference play, and remain the lone team across all divisions to not concede a goal yet this season.

With just over five minutes left to play, sophomore Grace Ehlert took a pass from Ella Koleno and scored the game-winning goal. It marks Ehlert’s fifth goal of the season, which ranks second among the Bears.

NYU outshot the Bears 19-7 and 8-4 in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Sidney Conner faced the most shots in a game so far this season, coming up with eight saves en route to her 10th blank sheet of the year. She ranks No. 1 in Division III in save percentage (1.000) and shutouts (10) while the Bears rank first in goals-against average (.000).

The Bears had their first shot on goal at the 8:19 mark as a shot from Koleno was saved by an NYU defender. Regan Cannon followed up with a shot less than 20 seconds later, which was saved by the Violets goalkeeper Tyler Hawkins.

Conner faced her first shot in the 24th minute, stopping a shot from NYU’s Riley Mullady. She made another play on a Kelli Keady shot in the 31st minute.

NYU had the first shot on goal of the second half, again by Keady, which was stopped by Conner. She then made a pair of saves in the 63rd minute on shots from Hope Neale and Keady.

The Bears had another chance in the 70th minute, but Ehlert’s shot was saved by Hawkins and sent the other way.

Conner came up again for the Bears in the 80th minute, stopping another shot from Keady. Another stop from Conner on an Elizabeth Argenziano shot in the 84th minute was the beginning of the Bears offensive attack which led to a goal just over a minute later.

WashU hits the road again next weekend for a pair of games, starting with a 12 p.m. on Friday against Carnegie-Mellon. Then on Sunday, the Bears will play Case Western Reserve at 10 a.m.
