WILLIAMSVILLE, IL — The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s volleyball team’s 30-game winning streak ended, Sunday afternoon, with a three sets to none loss to Lewis University in the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship game.
The Tritons had not lost a game all season and cruised unbeaten through the entire GLVC regular season schedule. But on Sunday, Lewis was just better.
The Flyers dominated the match from start to finish and took out the Tritons by scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-19.
Lewis outhit and outblocked UMSL in a manor that hadn’t happened all season. The Flyers had a .442 hitting percentage, with 40 kills on 86 attempts, while the Tritons had 48 kills on 119 attempts (.218 percent). The Flyers also posted 12 blocks and six service aces to just one and three, respectively for the Tritons.
UMSL is now 30-1 on the year, while league champ Lewis improved its record to 26-6.
Both teams will now wait for the unveiling of the NCAA National Tournament bracket. Even with the loss, UMSL is expected to be the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region.
