As it nears the beginning of training camp for the 2024 season, the Lindenwood University football program added a new prospect for the starting quarterback position.

Former McNeese State signal-caller Nate Glantz announced recently that he will transfer to Lindenwood and play for the Lions this season. Glantz was McNeese’s starting quarterback entering last season, but he lost the job after seven games due to shaky performance and injury.

The 6-foot, 202-pound redshirt junior from Elkhorn, Neb., played at Iowa State and was the NJCAA National Offensive Player of the Year in 2020 while at Iowa Western. Last year, Glantz threw for 861 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 62 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground.

In junior college, Glantz led Iowa Western to an 18-2 record. His freshman year — the year he won the national player of the year award — Glantz had a 169.6 efficiency rating and threw for 1,811 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Glantz comes to Lindenwood with two years of eligibility remaining and is hoping to complete his college career with the same spectacular play it began with.

Redshirt sophomore Carter Davis, a local product from Eureka High, will return to compete for LU’s starting QB job as well. Last year, Davis appeared in five games and threw for 372 yards and three touchdowns.

Incoming freshman Robert “Pops” Battle, a four-year standout at East St. Louis (IL) High, is also expected to compete for Lindenwood’s starting QB position.

The Lions will begin their season on August 29, when they’ll travel west to take on Kansas.
