NASHVILLE, TN — The University of Missouri women’s volleyball team earned its fourth straight win, when it defeated host school Lipscomb, three sets to one in the opening match of the Lippy Invite at Allen Arena.
Missouri dominated the first two sets, lost the third set, then closed out the match by winning the fourth set. The match scores were 25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 25-17.
Senior hitter Jordan Iliff led the Tigers with 19 kills and 11 digs. Teammates Mychael Vernon and Janet deMarrais added 16 kills and 13 kills, respectively. Setter Marina Crownover had 48 assists.
The Tigers led for all of the first two sets and most of the third set, until the Bisons went on a 6-1 run to take a 14-13 lead. Lipscomb was able to hold that edge the rest of that set to get back into the match.
But in the fourth set, Mizzou re-took control. The Tigers put together two separate 5-0 runs to go ahead 14-4.
From there, Mizzou remained patient and efficient on its attack to close out the win.
The Tigers are now 7-3 on the season and will be back in action on Friday in Nashville, with a match against Illinois.
