DAVIDSON, NC — The Saint Louis University baseball team earned itself a pair of critical wins over the weekend, when it won two of three games in an Atlantic 10 Conference series on the road against Davidson College.
Saint Louis lost the series opener, 6-0, on Friday, but rallied back to win the final two games on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s final score was 6-5 in 11 innings and Sunday’s game was shootout which ended with an 11-7 SLU victory.
With the weekend concluded, the Billikens are now 19-16 on the season and 8-7 in Atlantic 10 play, which has SLU a half-game ahead of Fordham for sixth place in the A-10 standings. Davidson is part of a four-tie for first place in the conference, along with George Mason, Rhode Island, and Dayton.

In Friday’s opener, Saint Louis was shut out by Davidson’s Walter Perkins, who pitched eight innings and allowed just two hits, with no walks, and 15 strikeouts. Billiken sophomore Owen Kelly (2-2) took the loss on the mound.
On Saturday, every batter in the SLU lineup except one had at least one hit, which included Riley Iffrig’s fifth home run of the season. But it took Hank Gomric’s clutch single in the top of the 11th to give the Billikens the lead for good.
The star of the day though, was Saint Louis junior righthander Charlie Weber, who came in in relief and pitched the final seven innings for the Billikens to get the win. Weber threw 101 pitches and struck out a career-high 10 Davidson batters to get the win.

In the rubber game on Sunday, Gomric was the star of the day. The freshman from Belleville, had four hits, including two home runs, and six RBIs to power the Billiken offense.
Teammate Hayden Moore also homered — his first of the season — as SLU posted double-digit runs for the second time this week. The Billikens defeated Rockhurst, 13-3, on Tuesday.
The Billikens will begin a five-game homestand on Tuesday, when they’ll host Lindenwood in a game at the Billiken Sports Complex. First pitch that evening is scheduled for 5 p.m.
