CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO — The Lindenwood Lions were ready for prime time.

It was Lindenwood’s first ever nationally televised men’s basketball game, when the Lions took on rival Southeast Missouri State, Thursday night at the Show Me Center.

And Lindenwood proved to be ready for the big stage, as the Lions stormed past SEMO for an 88-76 victory.

Anias Futrell recorded his first double-double of the season and led all scorers with a game-high 28 points on 8-13 shooting and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Dontrez Williams and Jadis Jones also had great performances tonight in the win, as Williams dropped 22 points and added seven steals, while Jones picked up his sixth double-double of the season as he scored 20 points and grabbed 10 boards.

After SEMO scored a bucket to put them up 5-4 with 17:40 to go in the opening half, the Lions settled in and took over the rest of the first half going on a 22-3 run over the next six minutes to take a commanding 26-7 lead with 11:47 left in the first half.

The Lions defense didn’t allow a basket for nearly seven minutes of game time and led 26-10 with just under nine minutes left in the half.

Lindenwood used their second big run of the half to take a 45-18 lead into the locker room behind a 12-3 run that was sparked by Futrell who knocked down two more threes to finish the first half with 15 points on 4-6 shooting from the three point line.

Lindenwood led by as many as 31 points in the second half before SEMO mounted a rally that pulled the host Redhawks to within seven points three times. But each time SEMO got that close, Lindenwood made the play it needed to stretch its lead back to double digits.

The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Lions and moved the team into a three-way tie for second place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. Lindenwood is 11-7 overall and 5-2 in the OVC. SEMO, which won the OVC regular season championship last season, fell to 9-9 and 4-3.
