FRISCO, TX — The St. Louis Battlehawks suffered their first loss of the 2026 United Football League season, in a 31-15 drubbing against the Dallas Renegades, Tuesday night at Toyota Stadium.
Dallas quarterback Austin Reed completed 22 passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns, three of them to receiver Tyler Vaughns, as the host Renegades led from start to finish in a game billed as a matchup between the UFL’s best offense versus the league’s best defense.
The Dallas offense proved itself superior on Tuesday night.
Vaughns caught a game-high 11 passes for 146 yards, along with the three touchdowns, while Reed completed 61.1 percent of his passes for a 106.3 rating. Overall, the Renegades converted 50 percent of their third downs (5-10) and were perfect in the red zone (3-3).

For its part, St. Louis lacked consistency on offense for the second straight game. Quarterback Brandon Silvers threw an interception on his team’s opening drive and finished the night with two.
Silvers did throw a late touchdown pass to tight end Tyler Neville that got the Battlehawks back into the game, but a pair of personal foul penalties on defensive lineman Carlos Davis ended any chance of St. Louis getting the ball back for a possibly game tying drive.
The one bright spot for St. Louis was the return of wide receiver Hakeem Butler, the 2024 UFL Offensive Player of the Year, caught four passes for a team-high 56 yards, after missing last week’s season opener due to an undisclosed injury.
The Battlehawks were behind 24-6 early in the fourth quarter, when Silvers hit Neville for a 10-yard touchdown.
Then on the next play, Butler made a sensational catch on a three-point conversion, which pulled St. Louis to within 24-15 — a one possession game in the UFL where teams can score as many as nine points with a touchdown and a three-pointer.
The Battlehawks defense forced Dallas into a long third down on its next possession, which looked like it might end with an incompletion that would give the ball back to St. Louis.
But Davis was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, which gave the Renegades an automatic first down. Then, on another third down, he was called for roughing the passer, which gave the home team another free first down.
Dallas turned those two breaks into a touchdown — the third one between Reed and Vaughns — which put the Renegades up 16 points with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

St. Louis is now 1-1 on the season and will have a quick turnaround for its next game. The Battlehawks will be back home for a matchup against the Birmingham Stallions on Sunday, April 12.
Kickoff at The Dome at America’s Center is slated for 2 p.m., and the game will be televised nationally on ABC.
